# Learn Basuri — Practice routine

Short daily sessions for **getting a tone**. Named-note drills (Sa–Re–Ga…) wait until
[One hole at a time](ladder.md). Interactive: [routine.html](routine.html).

## Goal

Never blow harder when there is no tone. Soft, focused air across the edge.

## 1 · Hear the target (1–2 min)

1. Set the practice-bar Sa to a comfortable pitch (Eastern home fingering = top three
closed — chart on [Fingering charts](swaras.html)).
2. Play Sa sample; hum it; notice the bamboo colour.
3. Optional: play a short real phrase for colour only.

## 2 · Daily block (15–20 min)

### A · Body & straw (3 min)
Tall sit, soft shoulders, belly breath. Straw stream on the palm.
→ [Straw drill](first-sound.html#straw)

### B · Kiss-and-roll hunt (5–7 min)
Holes open. Soft air across the edge. One change at a time.
Max two frustrated minutes — pause, replay Sa, try again.
→ [Kiss-and-roll](first-sound.html#kiss)

### C · Lock the tone (5 min) — when a tone appears
Hold 3–5 seconds × ~10. Fingers may stay open at first; then top-three Sa vs drone.
Pattern: S · S · S · S · S

### D · Named notes — one hole at a time
Do **not** start Sa–Re–Ga here. Work through [One hole at a time](ladder.html).
Use [fingering charts](swaras.html) as the reference map. Alankars and songs come after that.

## 3 · Week map

- **Days 1–3** — A–B only. Success = any pitch under the hiss.
- **Days 4–7** — Add C; match drone Sa (top three closed).
- **Week 2** — [One hole at a time](ladder.html) through Pa; keep [fingering charts](swaras.html) open for forks.
- **Week 3+** — [Alankars](alankars.html) · [Songs](songs.html); long tones every day.
