the Nārada Bhakti Sūtras (नारद भक्ति सूत्रस्)
तत्रापि न माहात्म्यज्ञानविस्मृत्यपवादः tatrāpi na māhātmyajñānavismṛtyapavādaḥ
The line
Even there, there is no exception of forgetting the knowledge of his greatness.
नेपालीमा
त्यहाँ पनि महिमाको ज्ञान बिर्सने अपवाद छैन।
Where it sits
A limit on the likeness. The knowledge of greatness stays in force.
Split: tatra (तत्र) + api (अपि) + na (न) + māhātmyajñānavismṛtyapavādaḥ (माहात्म्यज्ञानविस्मृत्यपवादः)
Sanskrit, in depth
The words
| Word | Grammar | Sense |
|---|---|---|
| tatra (तत्र) | indeclinable | there. In that likeness. |
| api (अपि) | indeclinable | even. Recited joined: a plus a becomes ā (आ), so tatrāpi (तत्रापि). |
| na (न) | indeclinable | not. Denies the nominative. |
| māhātmyajñānavismṛtyapavādaḥ (माहात्म्यज्ञानविस्मृत्यपवादः) | nominative singular, masculine | an exception consisting in forgetting the knowledge of greatness. māhātmya (माहात्म्य) is greatness. jñāna (ज्ञान) is knowledge. vismṛti (विस्मृति) is forgetting. apavāda (अपवाद) is an exception, a statement that sets a rule aside. Read from the end. |
The phrases
na denies the nominative. tatra api places the denial inside the likeness just given. There is no such exception there.
Sanskrit in this line
tatra plus api is tatrāpi (तत्रापि). Inside the compound, vismṛti (विस्मृति) plus apavāda (अपवाद) is vismṛtyapavāda (विस्मृत्यपवाद), because i plus a becomes ya. The visarga of apavādaḥ (अपवादः) stays at the end of the line.

What exception is refused even there?
