# Timelines on the kit

From the Rhythm room: Timelines, Catalogue (/rhythm/).

A timeline is a short pattern that repeats all the way through a piece. On a kit it is a
part for one hand over a pulse the feet and the other hand keep.

## The setup

Each groove has a Wheel under it: the same pattern as a circle, one ring per limb.

Play the timeline on the snare. Keep the hat on every quarter and the kick on 1 and 3.
The snare line is written exactly as the Rhythm room lists it (data-from checks that).

## Tresillo (3-3-2)

    hat x - x - x - x -
    snare o - - o - - o -
    kick o - - - o - - -

## Son clave 3-2

    hat x - x - x - x - x - x - x - x -
    snare o - - o - - o - - - o - o - - -
    kick o - - - o - - - o - - - o - - -

## Son clave 2-3

    snare - - o - o - - - o - - o - - o -

## Rumba clave 3-2

    snare o - - o - - - o - - o - o - - -

## Bossa nova clave

    snare o - - o - - o - - - o - - o - -

## Shiko, gahu and soukous

    shiko o - - - o - o - - - o - o - - -
    gahu o - - o - - o - - - o - - - o -
    soukous o - - o - - o - - - o o - - - -

## Four more cells (hat on quarters, kick on 1 and 3)

    charleston o - - o - - - -
    cinquillo o - o o - o o -
    double tresillo o - - o - - o - - o - - o - o - (two bars, 3-3-3-3-2-2)
    5/4 clave o - - o - - o - o - (five beats, kick on 1 and 4)

Count the groups out loud, not the beats: "1-2-3, 1-2-3, 1-2-3, 1-2-3, 1-2, 1-2" for the double tresillo.

## Bembé bell (12)

    ride b - b - b b - b - b - b
    hat x - - x - - x - - x - -
    kick o - - - - - o - - - - -

Hands first, then feet: if the snare line falls apart once the kick joins, play the
timeline alone with the click, add the hat, and bring the kick in last.
