## Position drills — 4-fret cages
Keep finger 1 on the start fret of the cage. Play along with the example, then alone.

- **Position I** — frets 1–4 chromatic, one finger per fret, G and D strings then A and E.
- **Position V** — the same cage from fret 5.
- **Position VII** — the same cage from fret 7. Do not rush.
- **Connect V → VII → V** — two bars of E at fret 5, shift, two bars at fret 7, shift back. No buzz on the shift.

## Shape drills
- **Root–fifth tour** — root on the E string, fifth on the A string two frets up; two bars each at frets 0, 3, 5, 7.
- **Am pentatonic · box 1** — up and down, landing clean on A (E string fret 5).
- **Am pent · 3-note groups** — groups of three through box 1.
- **Box shift · 1 → 2** — up box 1, one clean shift, down box 2.
- **Groove the shape** — G root–fifth as wholes, then eighths, then a gallop on the root.
