# Tapping — right hand on the board

> Interactive: [`tapping.html`](tapping.html) · Lab: [`tapping-lab.html`](tapping-lab.html)

Tap–pull chains on one string. Start after [Legato lesson 3](legato.md#lesson3). **t** = right-hand tap.

## Lessons

1. **Tap one note** — LH holds G 5; tap 12; pull back to 5.
2. **Classic cell** — G: 5, t12, p8, p5.
3. **B string** — same cell on B.
4. **Two taps** — G: 5, t12, p8, t10, p5.
5. **With a picked start** — pick 5, then the tap chain.
6. **Speed check** — loop lesson 2 in sixteenths; the pull after the tap disappears first.
7. **Triads on one string** — tap the top note, pull to the low note, hammer the middle, in triplets. B string: **Em** t12 p5 h8 · **C** t13 p5 h8 · **G** t15 p8 h12 · **D** t15 p7 h10. Why these notes make each chord: [Triads](triads.md).
8. **Tapped trill** — LH holds G 7; tap 12 and pull to 7, fast and even.

## Muting

- **Fretting hand:** index lies lightly across the strings above; the underside of the fingers touches the strings below.
- **Picking hand:** heel on the low strings near the bridge, as in a palm mute.
- **Check:** play lesson 2 and stop — anything still ringing is uncovered.
- A hair tie or fret wrap hides the problem; take it off once the hands do the work.

## Ready when

- Lesson 2 at 80 bpm in sixteenths, all notes even.
- Em · C · G · D tapped triads in triplets with clean changes.
- Tapped trill even for four beats.
- Nothing rings when you stop.
