Śruti / The four Vedas
The four Vedas
The book holds ten sittings. They move from the four layers to the four saṃhitās. A line is sat only where the words are secure. The one-sitting map is the Śruti portal.
The ten sittings begin with the four layers a reader needs before any one hymn makes sense. Then come the four saṃhitās, and the passages people ask for by name: the creation hymn, the person, the Gāyatrī, the white and black Yajurveda, Śrī Rudram, the sung Veda, the Atharvaveda of the house, and the cosmic pillar.
A line is sat, with its words split, only where the wording is secure. The rest of a hymn is told in prose. The Upaniṣads that close these Vedas have their own twelve sittings. Three of those books are already sat, mantra by mantra, on the verse shelf.
