the Nārada Bhakti Sūtras (नारद भक्ति सूत्रस्)
तस्मिंस् तज्जने भेदाभावात् tasmiṃs tajjane bhedābhāvāt
The line
Because there is no split between him and his person.
नेपालीमा
त्यसमा र त्यसको जनमा भेद नभएकाले।
Where it sits
Why the grace of the great and his grace are one matter, still in the chapter on the means.
Split: tasmin (तस्मिन्) + tajjane (तज्जने) + bhedābhāvāt (भेदाभावात्)
Sanskrit, in depth
The words
| Word | Grammar | Sense |
|---|---|---|
| tasmin (तस्मिन्) | locative singular, masculine | in him. Recited tasmiṃs (तस्मिंस्) before the next word. |
| tajjane (तज्जने) | locative singular, masculine | in his person. jana (जन) is a person. The compound is tat plus jana (जन), and the j is doubled. Read from the end. |
| bhedābhāvāt (भेदाभावात्) | ablative singular, masculine | because of the absence of a split. bheda (भेद) is a split, a difference. abhāva (अभाव) is absence. The ablative is the reason. Read from the end. |
The phrases
The two locatives are the pair between whom the split is absent: in him, and in his person. The ablative gives that absence as the reason the grace just named is one grace.
Sanskrit in this line
tasmin before tajjane is recited tasmiṃs (तस्मिंस्). Final n before t is heard as anusvāra (अनुस्वार) plus s. tajjane doubles the j, because t of tat meets j. bheda plus abhāva (अभाव) is bhedābhāva (भेदाभाव), a plus a becoming ā (आ).
