Sanskrit, in depth
The words
| Word | Grammar | Sense |
|---|---|---|
| tat (तत्) | nominative singular, neuter | that. The devotion whose means the teachers are singing. Recited tad (तद्) before e (ए). |
| eva (एव) | indeclinable | alone. |
| sādhyatām (साध्यताम्) | passive imperative, third person singular | let it be accomplished. From sādh (साध्). Recited with anusvāra (अनुस्वार) before the next word. |
| tat (तत्) | nominative singular, neuter | that. The same subject, said again. Recited tad (तद्) before e (ए). |
| eva (एव) | indeclinable | alone. Said again. |
| sādhyatām (साध्यताम्) | passive imperative, third person singular | let it be accomplished. The same imperative, said again. Final m is kept. |
The phrases
Each tat eva is the subject of its own sādhyatām (साध्यताम्). The sentence is said twice. tat is the devotion of this chapter.
Sanskrit in this line
tat plus eva is tad eva, t becoming d before the vowel. The first sādhyatām (साध्यताम्) is written with anusvāra (अनुस्वार) because another tad follows. The second keeps final m. The word is the same both times.
