Sanskrit, in depth
The words
| Word | Grammar | Sense |
|---|---|---|
| dussaṅgaḥ (दुस्सङ्गः) | nominative singular, masculine | bad company. dus is bad. saṅga (सङ्ग) is company. |
| sarvathā (सर्वथा) | indeclinable | in every way. |
| eva (एव) | indeclinable | indeed. Joined as sarvathaiva (सर्वथैव), ā (आ) plus e (ए). |
| tyājyaḥ (त्याज्यः) | gerundive, nominative singular, masculine | to be given up. Agrees with dussaṅgaḥ (दुस्सङ्गः). |
The phrases
dussaṅgaḥ (दुस्सङ्गः) and tyājyaḥ (त्याज्यः) agree. sarvathā (सर्वथा) and eva (एव) limits the giving up. The subject is this company, not the company of the great named earlier in the means.
Sanskrit in this line
sarvathā (सर्वथा) plus eva (एव) is recited sarvathaiva (सर्वथैव).
