Lesson 23: The Future

Index · Lesson 22: Joining Words

The present of “to go” uses गच्छ. The future uses गम्, then इष्य, then the present ending. “I will go” is गमिष्यामि। The past, Lesson 18, was the other way: अ in front of गच्छ, as in अगच्छम्.

The future of “to be” is the भविष्य row. Learn that row whole. “To write” follows “to study”: लिखिष्यामि, “I will write.”

अद्य means “today.” श्वः means “tomorrow.”

SentenceMeaning
I go today. अहम् keeps म् because अद्य starts with अ.
I will go tomorrow.
He will go to the city tomorrow.
Where will you go tomorrow? Said to a man at the तपाईं level.
I will write a letter tomorrow.
The teacher will be here tomorrow.

अहम् अद्य keeps म्, as in the first line. अहं श्वः writes ं because श्वः starts with a consonant.
