Lesson 54: This
Index · Lesson 53: Two Fathers · Lesson 55: This One Here
इदम् means “this.” The lessons already use इदं पुस्तकम् and अयं as a pointing word. This lesson is the column. It does not follow छात्रः.
| Case | This man | This woman | This thing |
|---|---|---|---|
| With, by | अनेन | अनया | अनेन |
| In, at | अस्मिन् | अस्याम् | अस्मिन् |
More than two: इमे, इमाः, इमानि as the subjects. The with-form of the men and the things is एभिः. The women’s with-form is आभिः.
| Sentence | Meaning |
|---|---|
| This student studies.
| I see this student. इमम् and छात्रम् are written with ं before consonants. अहम् keeps म् because इमं starts with a vowel. |
| This woman student studies. |
| I live in this house. वसति means “he lives,” and it follows पठति. वसामि is “I live.” |
