This book writes सः and गुरुः. Speech changes the visarga. Lesson 22: Joining Words already names the change and does not write it. This lesson sorts the cases.
Before क, ख, प, or फ, the visarga stays. सः पठति is said with the visarga. गुरुः पठति stays.
Before a voiced consonant, a visarga after अ is said as ओ. सः गच्छति is said सो गच्छति. A visarga after another vowel is said as र्. गुरुः गच्छति is said गुरुर्गच्छति.
Before अ, सः अस्ति is said सोऽस्ति. गुरुः अस्ति is said गुरुरस्ति.
