Śruti / The twelve Upaniṣads
The twelve Upaniṣads
The book holds twelve sittings. Śaṅkara's famous set is ten. This book follows a list of twelve titles, and the twelfth holds two. The one-sitting map is the Śruti portal. The mantra shelf is the three already sat.
Those twelve sittings begin from Śaṅkara (शङ्कर)'s famous set of ten: Īśā, Kena, Kaṭha, Praśna, Muṇḍaka, Māṇḍūkya, Taittirīya, Aitareya, Chāndogya, Bṛhadāraṇyaka. This guide follows a list of twelve titles. The twelfth sitting holds two later books, the Kauṣītaki and the Maitrī, which the lists do not always count the same way. The Śvetāśvatara is later in voice, names Rudra and Śiva, and is not one of the ten on which the famous bhāṣya set is built. A commentary printed under Śaṅkara's name is sometimes set beside it. This shelf does not freeze that attribution.
Three of the ten are already sat mantra by mantra: the Māṇḍūkya, the Īśāvāsya, and the Kaṭha. Those chapters here reprint the iconic line and point at the split words. They do not build a second word table that could drift from the shelf. Every other Sanskrit line on these pages is sat only where the wording is secure.
