The heel pressed firmly at the perineum, one foot placed above the penis, the chin made firm on the heart, the senses restrained, the gaze unmoving between the brows: this is called siddhāsana (सिद्धासन), maker of the opening of the door of release.

Where it sits

A long verse. Yoni-sthāna (योनि-स्थान) is the perineum, the place the verse names. Mokṣa-kapāṭa (मोक्ष-कपाट) is the door of release. 1.38 gives another setting of the same seat.

Split: yoni (योनि) + sthānakam (स्थानकम्) aṅghri (अङ्घ्रि) + mūla (मूल) + ghaṭitaṃ (घटितं) kṛtvā (कृत्वा) dṛḍhaṃ (दृढं) vinyaset (विन्यसेत्) meṇḍhre (मेण्ढ्रे) pādam (पादम्) athaikam (अथैकम्) eva (एव) hṛdaye (हृदये) kṛtvā (कृत्वा) hanuṃ (हनुं) susthiram (सुस्थिरम्) / sthāṇuḥ (स्थाणुः) saṃyamitendriyo'cala (संयमितेन्द्रियोऽचल) + dṛśā (दृशा) paśyed (पश्येद्) bhruvor (भ्रुवोर्) antaraṃ (अन्तरं) hy (ह्य्) etan (एतन्) mokṣa (मोक्ष) + kapāṭa (कपाट) + bheda (भेद) + janakaṃ (जनकं) siddhāsanaṃ (सिद्धासनं) procyate (प्रोच्यते)
