Haṭha Yoga Pradīpikā / 3.96 The cool middle stream
3.96
Haṭha (हठ) Yoga Pradīpikā (प्रदीपिका)
niṣevyate śītalamadhyadhārā kāpālike khaṇḍamate'marolī
The line
Because pitta is in excess, the first stream of water is left, and the last stream is left because it is without essence. The cool middle stream is the one used. In the Kāpālika (कापालिक)'s partial teaching, that is amarolī (अमरोली).
Where it sits
Khaṇḍamata (खण्डमत) is the partial doctrine the verse names, and it names it as a Kāpālika (कापालिक)'s. The first and the last are left. The middle is kept.
Split: pittolbaṇatvāt (पित्तोल्बणत्वात्) prathamāmbu (प्रथमाम्बु) + dhārāṃ (धारां) vihāya (विहाय) niḥsāratayānty (निःसारतयान्त्य्) adhārām (अधाराम्) / niṣevyate (निषेव्यते) śītala (शीतल) + madhya (मध्य) + dhārā (धारा) kāpālike (कापालिके) khaṇḍamate'marolī (खण्डमतेऽमरोली)

Say it back
Cover the English and say the verse in one sentence. Because pitta is in excess, the first stream of water is left, and the last stream is left because it is without essence. The cool middle stream is the one used. In the Kāpālika (कापालिक)'s partial teaching, that is amarolī (अमरोली).
