तन् नानानुरूपग्राह्यग्राहकभेदात् tan nānānurūpagrāhyagrāhakabhedāt
The line
That universe is various, because of the division into a grasped and a grasper according to each form.
नेपालीमा
त्यो विश्व अनेक देखिन्छ, रूपअनुसार ग्राह्य र ग्राहक छुट्टिएकाले।
Where it sits
The Vijñāna Bhairava (विज्ञान भैरव) 106 uses the same pair, grasped and grasper, for a common awareness and for the care a yogin (योगिन्) brings to their junction. This sūtra (सूत्र) uses the pair as the reason the one universe looks many.
Split: tat (तत्) + nānā (नाना) + anurūpagrāhyagrāhakabhedāt (अनुरूपग्राह्यग्राहकभेदात्)
Sanskrit, in depth
The words
| Word | Grammar | Sense |
|---|---|---|
| tat (तत्) | nominative singular, neuter | that. The universe of 2. Before n (न्) it is recited tan (तन्). |
| nānā (नाना) | indeclinable | variously, as many. |
| anurūpagrāhyagrāhakabhedāt (अनुरूपग्राह्यग्राहकभेदात्) | ablative singular, masculine | because of the division into a grasped and a grasper that fits each form. anurūpa (अनुरूप) is according to the form. grāhya (ग्राह्य) is what is grasped. grāhaka (ग्राहक) is the grasper. bheda (भेद) is a division. The ablative is the reason. |
The phrases
tat (तत्) is nānā (नाना), various. The ablative gives the reason. One opening looks like many because grasper and grasped have been divided to match each form.
Sanskrit in this line
tat (तत्) plus nānā (नाना) is recited tan nānā (तन् नाना). The t (त्) meets n (न्) and is heard as n (न्). The compound is one ablative. Read it from bhedāt (भेदात्).
