the Pratyabhijñāhṛdayam (प्रत्यभिज्ञाहृदयम्)
समाधिसंस्कारवति व्युत्थाने भूयो भूयश् चिदैक्यामर्शान् नित्योदितसमाधिलाभः samādhisaṃskāravati vyutthāne bhūyo bhūyaś cidaikyāmarśān nityoditasamādhilābhaḥ
The line
In the rising that still carries the impression of samādhi (समाधि), from touching the oneness of consciousness again and again, one gains the samādhi (समाधि) that is always risen.
नेपालीमा
समाधिको संस्कार बाँकी रहेको व्युत्थानमा, फेरि फेरि चितिको एकत्वलाई छोएर, सधैँ उर्लिएको समाधि पाइन्छ।
Where it sits
20 is the fruit once that gain is in hand. vyutthāna (व्युत्थान) is named as the place the impression works, not as a failure.
Split: samādhisaṃskāravati (समाधिसंस्कारवति) + vyutthāne (व्युत्थाने) + bhūyas (भूय) + bhūyaḥ (भूयः) + cidaikyāmarśāt (चिदैक्यामर्शात्) + nityoditasamādhilābhaḥ (नित्योदितसमाधिलाभः)
Sanskrit, in depth
The words
| Word | Grammar | Sense |
|---|---|---|
| samādhisaṃskāravati (समाधिसंस्कारवति) | locative singular, neuter | in that which carries the impression of samādhi (समाधि). saṃskāra (संस्कार) is a latent impression. vat (वत्) means possessing. The locative agrees with vyutthāne (व्युत्थाने). |
| vyutthāne (व्युत्थाने) | locative singular, neuter | in the rising, the state after absorption. vyutthāna (व्युत्थान) is coming up out of samādhi (समाधि). |
| bhūyas (भूय) | indeclinable | again. Recited bhūyo (भूयो) before bh (भ्). |
| bhūyaḥ (भूयः) | indeclinable | again. Recited bhūyaś (भूयश्) before c (च्). |
| cidaikyāmarśāt (चिदैक्यामर्शात्) | ablative singular, masculine | from touching the oneness of consciousness. aikya (ऐक्य) is oneness. āmarśa (आमर्श) is a touching, a contact. Recited āmarśān (आमर्शान्) before n (न्). |
| nityoditasamādhilābhaḥ (नित्योदितसमाधिलाभः) | nominative singular, masculine | the gain of the samādhi (समाधि) that is always risen. nitya (नित्य) is constant. udita (उदित) is risen. lābha (लाभ) is the gain. |
The phrases
The two locatives are the occasion: the rising that still holds the impression. bhūyas bhūyaḥ (भूयस् भूयः) is again and again. The ablative is the source of the gain. What is gained is a samādhi (समाधि) that does not depend on staying sunk.
Sanskrit in this line
The first bhūyas (भूय) before a voiced consonant is bhūyo (भूयो). The second, before c (च्), is bhūyaś (भूयश्). cidaikyāmarśāt (चिदैक्यामर्शात्) before n (न्) is cidaikyāmarśān (चिदैक्यामर्शान्). The split restores bhūyaḥ (भूयः) and āmarśāt (आमर्शात्).
Say it back
Say what is touched again and again, and what samādhi (समाधि) is gained.
