Lesson 48: He Causes

Index · Lesson 47: Do Not Go · Lesson 49: Those Verbs in the Past

पाठयति means “he causes someone to read,” or “he teaches,” which is the same picture: one person makes another read. The endings are the पठति endings on the stem पाठय.

गमयति means “he causes to go.” कारयति means “he causes to do.” दर्शयति means “he shows,” which is “he causes to see.” स्थापयति means “he causes to stand,” or “he sets down.”

The past puts अ in front, as अपठत् does. अपाठयत् means “he taught.”
