-तर makes a comparison of two. -तम makes the most of a group. The new word then matches the noun like नवीनः. लघु, “small,” is the उ word from the qualities page. लघुतरः is “smaller.” लघुतमः is “smallest.”
दीर्घतरः is “longer.” प्रियतमः is “dearest.” A woman is लघुतरा. A thing is लघुतरम्.
श्रेष्ठः means “best.” It is not built with -तम in this lesson. Say it whole, and match it like नवीनः. A woman is श्रेष्ठा. A thing is श्रेष्ठम्.
