Lesson 76: The King's Son
Index · Lesson 75: The Pair · Lesson 77: A Blue Lotus
राजपुत्रः means “the king’s son,” the son of the king. The first noun is the case, here “of.” The second noun takes the ending you need. School calls this compound तत्पुरुष.
देवगृहम् means “a house of a god,” a temple, and it follows पुस्तकम्. जलपात्रम् means “a pot of water.” गुरुपुत्रः means “the teacher’s son.”
The case that was inside the compound is not written again. राजपुत्रः is not राज्ञः पुत्रः, though both can say the same thing. The compound is one word.
