Sight Singing

Singers do not have physical keys or frets to press—your vocal cords produce pitch through muscle memory and internal hearing (audiation). Sight singing is the art of looking at notation and hearing the pitch in your mind before singing it aloud.

Solfège & Sargam Mapping

Whether using Western movable Do or Indian Classical Sa, reading music for voice relies on relative scale degrees. When your tonic (Sa or Do) is C:

On the Sight Reading Practice page, choosing Singing displays these sargam names directly below the staff notes.

Vocal Reading Tip: Train your eyes to identify steps (moving to the adjacent note) versus skips (jumping a 3rd or 5th). For the complete guide to staff notation, landmark anchors, and rhythm subdivision, visit the master Sight Reading Hub. Daily ear and scale training stays on Practice.
