Śiva Sūtra / Śāmbhavopāya (शाम्भव) / 1.11
1.11
त्रितयभोक्ता वीरेशः tritayabhoktā vīreśaḥ
The line
The enjoyer of the three is the lord of the heroes.
नेपालीमा
तीनको भोग गर्ने वीरहरूको स्वामी हो।
Where it sits
The three are the states of 1.7. The enjoyment is the ābhoga (आभोग) of the fourth, still in force from that line. The subject who can hold all three is named here.
Split: tritayabhoktā (त्रितयभोक्ता) + vīreśaḥ (वीरेशः)
Sanskrit, in depth
The words
| Word | Grammar | Sense |
|---|---|---|
| tritayabhoktā (त्रितयभोक्ता) | nominative singular | the enjoyer of the triad. tritaya (त्रितय) is a set of three. bhoktṛ (भोक्तृ) is the one who enjoys. The nominative is bhoktā (भोक्ता). |
| vīreśaḥ (वीरेशः) | nominative singular, masculine | lord of the vīra (वीर). vīra (वीर) is a hero. īśa (ईश) is lord. |
The phrases
Two nominatives. The one who enjoys the three is the lord of the vīra (वीर). Kṣemarāja (क्षेमराज) reads vīra (वीर) as the senses. The sūtra (सूत्र)'s word is vīra (वीर).
Sanskrit in this line
bhoktā (भोक्ता) is the nominative of an agent noun in tṛ (तृ). vīra (वीर) and īśa (ईश) join as vīreśa (वीरेश), short a (अ) plus ī (ई) becoming e (ए).
Say it back
Say who enjoys the three, and say the commentary's reading of vīra (वीर) as a reading, after the word itself.
