Śiva Sūtra / Śāmbhavopāya (शाम्भव) / 1.14
1.14
दृश्यं शरीरम् dṛśyaṃ śarīram
The line
The seen is the body.
नेपालीमा
देखिने नै शरीर हो।
Where it sits
A body was already a bond at 1.3, the body that is kalā (कला). This line says the seen itself is a body. 1.18 will put the world's bliss beside the joy of samādhi (समाधि).
Split: dṛśyam (दृश्यम्) + śarīram (शरीरम्)
Sanskrit, in depth
The words
| Word | Grammar | Sense |
|---|---|---|
| dṛśyam (दृश्यम्) | nominative singular, neuter | the seen, what can be seen. From dṛś (दृश्), to see. |
| śarīram (शरीरम्) | nominative singular, neuter | the body. |
The phrases
Two nominatives, both neuter. The seen is the body.
Sanskrit in this line
Both words are neuter nominatives in am (अम्). The first anusvāra (अनुस्वार) is written before ś (श्).
Say it back
Say the line, then say what 1.3 had called a body.
