From practicing the limbs of yoga, as impurity dwindles, the lamp of knowledge shines, up to discernment.

योगका अङ्गको अभ्यासबाट अशुद्धि घट्दै जाँदा ज्ञानको दियो विवेकसम्म बल्छ।

Where it sits

The argument is over. The means of release was unwavering discernment. This line says the limbs are how a person is carried there, as impurity thins and knowledge brightens. 2.29 names the eight limbs. The rest of the pāda (पाद) defines them.

The phrases

yogāṅgānuṣṭhānāt (योगाङ्गानुष्ठानात्) is ablative: from practicing the limbs of yoga. yoga (योग) + aṅga (अङ्ग) is a (अ) + a (अ) = ā (आ), and aṅga (अङ्ग) + anuṣṭhāna (अनुष्ठान) is the same join.

aśuddhi-kṣaye (अशुद्धिक्षये) is locative, “when impurity dwindles.” jñāna-dīptiḥ (ज्ञानदीप्तिः) is the nominative, the lamp of knowledge. Before ā (आ), dīptiḥ (दीप्तिः) is recited dīptir (दीप्तिर्). ā viveka-khyāteḥ (आ विवेकख्यातेः) says how far the lamp shines: up to the discernment of 2.26.

Sanskrit in this line

ā (आ) with the ablative means “up to,” a limit. khyāteḥ (ख्यातेः) is ablative, “as far as the discernment.” And iḥ (इः) before a vowel is ir (इर्): dīptir ā (दीप्तिरा). You have used that sandhi. Here the following sound is the word ā (आ) itself, so it is easy to miss.

Say it back

Say what the practice is of, and how far the lamp goes. The limit is viveka-khyāteḥ (विवेकख्यातेः).
