2.36
सत्यप्रतिष्ठायां क्रियाफलाश्रयत्वम्
satya-pratiṣṭhāyāṃ kriyā-phalāśrayatvam
The line
When truth is established, action and its fruit come to rest on one's words.
नेपालीमा
सत्य स्थापित भएमा कर्म र त्यसको फल आफ्ना वचनमा अडिन्छन्।
Where it sits
The second fruit. The pattern is now visible, so the later lines can be shorter in explanation and still be read. 2.37 is non-stealing.
Split: satya (सत्य) + pratiṣṭhāyām (प्रतिष्ठायाम्) + kriyā (क्रिया) + phala (फल) + āśrayatvam (आश्रयत्वम्)
Sanskrit, in depth
The words
| Word | Grammar | Sense |
|---|---|---|
| satya (सत्य) | stem | truth. The second restraint. |
| pratiṣṭhāyām (प्रतिष्ठायाम्) | locative singular | when it is established. |
| kriyā (क्रिया) | stem | action. |
| phala (फल) | stem | the fruit of action. |
| āśrayatvam (आश्रयत्वम्) | nominative singular, neuter | the state of resting on. Action and fruit come to rest on one's words. |
The phrases
The same locative opening as 2.35. When truth is established, there is kriyā-phalāśrayatvam (क्रियाफलाश्रयत्वम्): action and its fruit come to rest upon that person. phala (फल) + āśraya (आश्रय) is a (अ) + ā (आ) = ā (आ). What one says, happens.
Sanskrit in this line
-tva (त्व) plus neuter -am (अम्) is “the state of,” from 1.45. āśrayatvam (आश्रयत्वम्) is “the state of being a resting-place.” The locative opening is unchanged from 2.35. Read the compound from the end.
Say it back
Use the pattern without looking back: locative of establishment, then the fruit.
