Listen — what note am I playing?

Hold a steady tone on your basuri. This page listens through your microphone and shows frequency (Hz), Western pitch, and the swara relative to your Sa (practice bar below).

Set Sa on the bar to match your three-hole Sa first — or play Sa and press Use heard pitch as Sa.

Browser will ask for mic permission. Use Chrome/Edge/Safari on HTTPS or localhost.

Waiting for a steady tone…

Tips

  1. Quiet room helps. Point the mic toward the embouchure, not the foot of the flute.
  2. Hold one note 2–3 seconds — the detector needs a stable tone (not meend while reading).
  3. Air noise alone will not lock; keep seeking a clear pitch under the hiss.
  4. Komal / tivra names assume equal-tempered steps from Sa (good for practice; raga shruti may sit slightly differently).
  5. Turn the drone off if it confuses the mic; or use headphones for the drone.
