42. The mountain of herbs
Yuddha (युद्ध)
Indrajit, Rāvaṇa's son, fights from inside a concealment the poem treats as his particular art. After Kumbhakarṇa has fallen, which the next sitting tells, Indrajit looses the brahmāstra. Rāma, Lakṣmaṇa, and most of the army fall. The grief in the camp is the grief of an army that crossed the sea for a friend and now lies on the far shore. Jāmbavān, barely alive, says there are herbs, on a mountain, and there is no time. Hanumān goes.
He cannot identify the one plant among the plants. He solves the ignorance by lifting the mountain and bringing it. The herbs are found. The fallen rise. The page says the mountain was brought and the life returned. It does not name a medical procedure and it does not describe the wounds. On the way, one telling has Bharata, still waiting at Nandigrāma, loose an arrow at the huge shape in the sky, and then, hearing Rāma's name, send the flier on with grief at his own aim. The stable fact is the mountain arriving in time. Vālmīki sends him once more, after Indrajit's death, when Rāvaṇa's spear fells Lakṣmaṇa and the physician Suṣeṇa asks for the herbs.
The sitting is Hanumān's second crossing, not of the sea but of a task that outgrows recognition. When he cannot find the right thing, he brings the whole place the thing lives. It is the same character as the leap. Competence, at his size, includes the willingness to carry more than was asked, and to bring it back unused in every part except the one part that saves the brothers.
नेपालीमा
कुम्भकर्ण ढलेपछि, जुन अर्को बैठकमा छ, इन्द्रजितले लुकेर ब्रह्मास्त्र चलायो। राम, लक्ष्मण र सेना ढले। जाम्बवानले पर्वतमा जडीबुटी छन्, र समय छैन भने। हनुमान गए। एउटै बोट चिन्न सकेनन्। पूरै पर्वत उठाएर ल्याए। जीवन फर्कियो। यो पृष्ठले पर्वत आयो र जीवन फर्कियो भन्छ। उपचारको विधि लेख्दैन। एउटा कथनमा भरतले आकाशमा ठूलो आकार देखेर वाण हाने, अनि रामको नाम सुनेर शोक मान्दै उडेकोलाई पठाए। स्थिर तथ्य: पर्वत समयमै आयो। वाल्मीकिले हनुमानलाई फेरि एक पटक पठाएका छन्, इन्द्रजितको मृत्युपछि, रावणको शक्तिले लक्ष्मण ढल्दा र सुषेणले जडीबुटी मागेपछि। चिन्न नसकेको कुरा रहेको पूरै ठाउँ नै उनले बोकेर ल्याए।
