Lesson 83: For the Teacher
Index · Lesson 82: By Hand, With the Teacher · Lesson 84: Than the Teacher
The for-form is “for,” and it is also the person to whom a gift is given. Lesson 34: He Gives already has छात्राय. This lesson adds नमः, “a bow,” an indeclinable. नमः takes the for-form of the one you bow to.
गुरवे नमः। “A bow to the teacher.” देवाय नमः। “A bow to the god.”
A purpose can be the for-form of an abstract: शुभतायै, “for the sake of goodness.” शुभता follows छात्रा, so the for-form is शुभतायै.
