Vijñāna Bhairava / Verses 81–110 (उपदेश) / 97

97

Vijñāna Bhairava (विज्ञान भैरव)

The line

When my wish has not arisen, nor knowing, who am I then? In reality I, being thus, dissolved in that, would become one whose mind is that.

Where it sits

The electronic text prints a broken character before ham (हम्). The line is tattvato 'ham (तत्त्वतोऽहम्), in reality I. The question kas tadāsmi (कस् तदास्मि) is the verse's own: who am I then.

Split: yadā (यदा) + mama (मम) + icchā (इच्छा) + na (न) + utpannā (उत्पन्ना) + jñānam (ज्ञानम्) + vā (वा) + kaḥ (कः) + tadā (तदा) + asmi (अस्मि) + vai (वै) + tattvataḥ (तत्त्वतः) + aham (अहम्) + tathābhūtaḥ (तथाभूतः) + tallīnaḥ (तल्लीनः) + tanmanāḥ (तन्मनाः) + bhavet (भवेत्)
