Vijñāna Bhairava / Verses 111–138 (उपदेश) / 123

Vijñāna Bhairava (विज्ञान भैरव)

किंचिज्ज्ञैर् या स्मृता शुद्धिः सा शुद्धिः शम्भुदर्शने ।
न शुचिर् ह्यशुचिस् तस्मान् निर्विकल्पः सुखी भवेत्
kiṃcijjñair yā smṛtā śuddhiḥ sā śuddhiḥ śambhudarśane |
na śucir hy aśucis tasmān nirvikalpaḥ sukhī bhavet

The line

The purity remembered by those who know a little is purity in the seeing of Śambhu (शम्भु). There is no pure, indeed, and no impure. Therefore one free of constructing would become joyful.

Where it sits

The verse's na śuciḥ (न शुचिः) and aśuciḥ (अशुचिः) refuse the pair. Purity, in this line, is Śambhu (शम्भु)'s seeing.

Split: kiṃcijjñaiḥ (किंचिज्ज्ञैः) + yā (या) + smṛtā (स्मृता) + śuddhiḥ (शुद्धिः) + sā (सा) + śuddhiḥ (शुद्धिः) + śambhudarśane (शम्भुदर्शने) + na (न) + śuciḥ (शुचिः) + hi (हि) + aśuciḥ (अशुचिः) + tasmāt (तस्मात्) + nirvikalpaḥ (निर्विकल्पः) + sukhī (सुखी) + bhavet (भवेत्)

What those who know a little remember as purity, that is purity in Śambhu (शम्भु)'s seeing. The verse's na (न) says there is no pure and no impure. Therefore one free of constructing would become joyful.

Sanskrit in this line

kiṃcijjña (किंचिज्ज्ञ) is one who knows a little, the same kiñcit jñātam (किञ्चित् ज्ञातम्) of 86, which gave duality.

Say what the verse does with pure and impure, in its own na (न).
