ईश्वर अघिल्लाहरूका पनि गुरु हुन्, कालले काटिएका होइनन्।

Where it sits

1.25 set the seed of knowing beyond any surpassing. This line says that seed is not dated. The dedication of 1.23 is toward a teacher who is not inside the sequence of teachers.

Split: pūrveṣām (पूर्वेषाम्) + api (अपि) + guruḥ (गुरुः) + kālena (कालेन) + anavacchedāt (अनवच्छेदात्)

Sanskrit, in depth

The words

WordGrammarSense
pūrveṣām (पूर्वेषाम्)genitive plural of pūrva (पूर्व)of the earlier ones. Teachers and beings before.
api (अपि)indeclinablealso, even.
guruḥ (गुरुः)nominative singular, masculinethe teacher.
kālena (कालेन)instrumental singular of kāla (काल)by time.
anavacchedāt (अनवच्छेदात्)ablative singular of anavaccheda (अनवच्छेद)because of not being cut off. a- (अ) plus avaccheda (अवच्छेद), “a cutting short.”

The phrases

pūrveṣām api guruḥ (पूर्वेषामपि गुरुः) is “teacher of the earlier ones too.” guruḥ (गुरुः) is nominative. pūrveṣām (पूर्वेषाम्) is genitive, “of them.” Īśvara (ईश्वर) is not the first teacher in a line. The earlier ones have Īśvara (ईश्वर) as teacher as well.

kālenānavacchedāt (कालेनानवच्छेदात्) gives the reason, in the ablative. kālena (कालेन) is instrumental, “by time,” inside a compound whose last member is the ablative anavacchedāt (अनवच्छेदात्). a (अ) + a (अ) joins kālena (कालेन) to anavaccheda (अनवच्छेद). Time does not cut Īśvara (ईश्वर) off, and that is why the teaching reaches backward too.

Sanskrit in this line

The new ending is the instrumental singular -ena (एन), “by.” kālena (कालेन) is “by time.” Beside it, the ablative -āt (आत्) on anavaccheda (अनवच्छेद) is the reason, which you have been reading since 1.17. Privative a- (अ) is the same “not” as in 1.5.

Say it back

Point at -ena (एन) and say “by time.” Point at -āt (आत्) and say the reason.
