The line

Samāpatti (समापत्ति) is a mind whose activities have thinned, taking the color of knower, knowing, or known, like a clear jewel.

नेपालीमा

समापत्ति पातलिएको वृत्ति भएको चित्त हो, जसले ज्ञाता, ज्ञान वा ज्ञेयको रङ लिन्छ, सफा मणिजस्तै।

Where it sits

1.17 named cognitive samādhi (समाधि) by its companions. This line names the event inside it: samāpatti (समापत्ति), the mind taking the color of whatever it rests in. 1.42 and 1.43 will divide that event into with reasoning and without it.

Split: kṣīṇa (क्षीण) + vṛtteḥ (वृत्तेः) + abhijātasya (अभिजातस्य) + iva (इव) + maṇeḥ (मणेः) + grahītṛ (ग्रहीतृ) + grahaṇa (ग्रहण) + grāhyeṣu (ग्राह्येषु) + tat (तत्) + stha (स्थ) + tat (तत्) + añjanatā (अञ्जनता) + samāpattiḥ (समापत्तिः)

The phrases

The genitives set up a comparison. Of a mind whose activities have thinned, as of a clear jewel. vṛtteḥ (वृत्तेः) before a (अ) is recited vṛtter (वृत्तेर्). abhijātasya iva (अभिजातस्य इव) is recited abhijātasyeva (अभिजातस्येव), because a (अ) + i (इ) = e (ए).

grahītṛ-grahaṇa-grāhyeṣu (ग्रहीतृग्रहणग्राह्येषु) is locative plural: in the knower, the knowing, or the known. tat-stha-tadañjanatā (तत्स्थतदञ्जनता) is the predicate agreeing with samāpattiḥ (समापत्तिः): the state of standing in that and taking on its color. tat (तत्) + añjana (अञ्जन) is recited tadañjana (तदञ्जन), because a final t (त्) before a vowel becomes d (द्).

Sanskrit in this line

Three new pieces, and the line needs all three. Locative plural -eṣu (एषु) means “in the many.” a (अ) + i (इ) = e (ए), so asya (अस्य) + iva (इव) is asyeva (अस्येव). A final t (त्) before a vowel becomes d (द्): tat añjana (ततञ्जन) is tadañjana (तदञ्जन). eḥ (एः) before a vowel becomes er (एर्), which is why vṛtteḥ abhijātasya (वृत्तेः अभिजातस्य) begins vṛtter (वृत्तेर्).

Say it back

Say the three places the mind can be colored: knower, knowing, known. Then the word for the coloring: samāpattiḥ (समापत्तिः).
