दृश्यको चरित्र प्रकाश, क्रिया र स्थिरता हो, त्यो भूत र इन्द्रियबाट बनेको हुन्छ, र त्यो भोग तथा छुटकाराका लागि हो।

Where it sits

2.17 named the seen only as one side of a joining. This line says what the seen is. It is not “the world” in a casual sense. It is whatever has this character, this makeup, and this purpose. The purpose includes release. The seen is not only a trap. It is also for getting free.

Split: prakāśa (प्रकाश) + kriyā (क्रिया) + sthiti (स्थिति) + śīlam (शीलम्) + bhūta (भूत) + indriya (इन्द्रिय) + ātmakam (आत्मकम्) + bhoga (भोग) + apavarga (अपवर्ग) + artham (अर्थम्) + dṛśyam (दृश्यम्)

The phrases

Three neuter descriptions of one neuter noun, dṛśyam (दृश्यम्). Its character is light, activity, and staying. It consists of elements and senses. It is for experience and for release.

bhūta (भूत) + indriya (इन्द्रिय) meets ātmaka (आत्मक) by a (अ) + ā (आ) = ā (आ): bhūtendriyātmaka (भूतेन्द्रियात्मक). bhoga (भोग) + apavarga (अपवर्ग) is a (अ) + a (अ) = ā (आ). The three guṇas (गुण) are not named, but light, activity, and staying are their characters. 2.19 will name the levels.

Sanskrit in this line

Three agreeing neuter -am (अम्) endings, and the compounds are read from the end: character of these three; having the nature of elements and senses; for the sake of experience and release. -artham (अर्थम्) is “for the sake of,” from 1.32.

Say it back

Describe the seen in the line's three strokes: character, makeup, purpose. Do not add a fourth.
