The line

And purity of sattva, gladness, one-pointedness, mastery of the senses, and fitness for seeing the self.

नेपालीमा

अनि सत्त्वको शुद्धि, प्रसन्नता, एकाग्रता, इन्द्रियमाथि वश र आत्मा देख्ने योग्यता हुन्छ।

Where it sits

Still the fruit of śauca (शौच). The ca (च) is doing real work: these are in addition to 2.40, not a new observance. Contentment is next, and it gets a single fruit.

Split: sattva (सत्त्व) + śuddhi (शुद्धि) + saumanasya (सौमनस्य) + ekāgrya (एकाग्र्य) + indriya (इन्द्रिय) + jaya (जय) + ātma (आत्म) + darśana (दर्शन) + yogyatvāni (योग्यत्वानि) + ca (च)

ca (च)indeclinableand. These too, from the cleanliness of 2.40.

The phrases

A further list from cleanliness, joined by ca (च). Purity of sattva, gladness, one-pointedness, mastery of the senses, and fitness for seeing the self. The compounds overlap: saumanasya (सौमनस्य) + ekāgrya (एकाग्र्य) is a (अ) + e (ए) = ai (ऐ), and jaya (जय) + ātma (आत्म) is a (अ) + ā (आ) = ā (आ), so the recited line runs together.

Vyāsa (व्यास)'s bhāṣya (भाष्य) cuts the list as five: sattva-śuddhi (सत्त्वशुद्धि), saumanasya (सौमनस्य), ekāgrya (एकाग्र्य), indriya-jaya (इन्द्रियजय), ātma-darśana-yogyatva (आत्मदर्शनयोग्यत्व). The plural -āni (आनि) sits on the last. Do not invent a sixth by cutting at every hyphen.

Sanskrit in this line

The new sandhi is a (अ) + e (ए) = ai (ऐ). saumanasya (सौमनस्य) + ekāgrya (एकाग्र्य) is saumanasyaikāgrya (सौमनस्यैकाग्र्य). You have had ā (आ) + e (ए) = ai (ऐ) in etayaiva (एतयैव). Short a (अ) before e (ए) makes the same ai (ऐ). The plural -āni (आनि) means the list is one group.

Say it back

Cut the line into the five fruits, aloud. If you make six, the a (अ) + e (ए) joint has fooled you.
