ततः परमा वश्यतेन्द्रियाणाम्

tataḥ paramā vaśyatendriyāṇām

The line

From that, the highest obedience of the senses.

नेपालीमा

त्यसबाट इन्द्रियको सर्वोच्च वश हुन्छ।

Where it sits

This closes the second pāda (पाद). The outer limbs, through withdrawal, are in place. The third pāda (पाद) opens on the inner three: holding, meditation, samādhi (समाधि), and then the powers that appear, and the warning that the powers are not the goal.

Split: tataḥ (ततः) + paramā (परमा) + vaśyatā (वश्यता) + indriyāṇām (इन्द्रियाणाम्)

vaśyatā (वश्यता)nominative singular, feminineobedience, the state of being under mastery.

The phrases

From that, the highest obedience of the senses. paramā (परमा) agrees with vaśyatā (वश्यता). vaśyatā indriyāṇām (वश्यता इन्द्रियाणाम्) is recited vaśyatendriyāṇām (वश्यतेन्द्रियाणाम्), because ā (आ) + i (इ) = e (ए). The senses are not destroyed. They obey.

Sanskrit in this line

ā (आ) + i (इ) = e (ए). vaśyatā (वश्यता) + indriya (इन्द्रिय) is vaśyatendriya (वश्यतेन्द्रिय). You have had a (अ) + i (इ) = e (ए) and ā (आ) + i (इ) = e (ए) as the same family: a vowel a/ā (अ/आ) plus i (इ) becomes e (ए). Genitive plural indriyāṇām (इन्द्रियाणाम्) tells you whose obedience.

Say it back

Close the pāda (पाद) by naming the last fruit: paramā vaśyatā indriyāṇām (परमा वश्यता इन्द्रियाणाम्). Then stop. The holdings are the next pāda (पाद).

# Vibhūti-pāda (विभूतिपाद)

Holding, meditation, and samādhi (समाधि) as one practice. The powers, then the setting of them down. Same form as the earlier sittings.
