The line
For one who has only the discernment that sattva and puruṣa (पुरुष) differ: standing over every state, and being a knower of all.
नेपालीमा
सत्त्व र पुरुष फरक हुन् भन्ने विवेक मात्र भएको व्यक्ति हरेक अवस्थामाथि उभिन्छ र सबै कुराको ज्ञाता हुन्छ।
Where it sits
3.35 said experience is the failure to distinguish sattva and puruṣa (पुरुष). This line is the other side: only that discernment left, and from it a total knowership. The book is about to set that knowership down. Do not stop at 3.49.
Split: sattva (सत्त्व) + puruṣa (पुरुष) + anyatā (अन्यता) + khyāti (ख्याति) + mātrasya (मात्रस्य) + sarva (सर्व) + bhāva (भाव) + adhiṣṭhātṛtvam (अधिष्ठातृत्वम्) + sarva (सर्व) + jñātṛtvam (ज्ञातृत्वम्) + ca (च)

The phrases
For one who has only the discernment that sattva and puruṣa (पुरुष) differ: standing over every state, and being a knower of all. The genitive mātrasya (मात्रस्य) is the person. The two neuter nominatives are the two fruits. puruṣa (पुरुष) + anyatā (अन्यता) is a (अ) + a (अ) = ā (आ). bhāva (भाव) + adhiṣṭhātṛ (अधिष्ठातृ) is the same.
This is the high end of the powers. It is still a power. 3.50 will say dispassion toward even this is what gives aloneness.
Sanskrit in this line
Genitive mātrasya (मात्रस्य) means “of the one who is only that.” -tṛ (तृ) agent nouns plus -tva (त्व) name “the state of being the doer”: jñātṛtva (ज्ञातृत्व), “being a knower.” Two such states, joined by ca (च). The person is in the genitive. The fruits are in the nominative.
Say it back
Say who this is about, first. Only the discernment. Then the two fruits. Then turn the page.
