4.3

निमित्तमप्रयोजकं प्रकृतीनां वरणभेदस् तु ततः क्षेत्रिकवत्

nimittam aprayojakaṃ prakṛtīnāṃ varaṇa-bhedas tu tataḥ kṣetrikavat

The line

The occasion does not drive the prakṛtis (प्रकृति). It only opens a different covering, as a farmer does for a field.

नेपालीमा

निमित्तले प्रकृतिहरूलाई हाँक्दैन। त्यसले किसानले खेतका लागि जस्तै अर्को आवरण मात्र खोल्छ।

Where it sits

4.2 said prakṛti (प्रकृति) overflows. This line protects that claim from the idea that a mantra or a birth-chart pushes nature around. The occasion removes a barrier. 4.4 turns to minds: constructed minds come from I-sense alone.

Split: nimittam (निमित्तम्) + aprayojakam (अप्रयोजकम्) + prakṛtīnām (प्रकृतीनाम्) + varaṇa (वरण) + bhedaḥ (भेदः) + tu (तु) + tataḥ (ततः) + kṣetrikavat (क्षेत्रिकवत्)

The phrases

The occasion does not drive the prakṛtis (प्रकृति). nimittam aprayojakam (निमित्तमप्रयोजकम्) agrees, both neuter. What the occasion does is break a different covering, varaṇa-bhedaḥ (वरणभेदः). tu (तु) marks the contrast. kṣetrikavat (क्षेत्रिकवत्) is the image: a farmer opens a channel, and the water, which was already there, flows.

tataḥ (ततः) is from the occasion. The farmer does not become the water.

Sanskrit in this line

-vat (वत्) is the suffix “like.” kṣetrikavat (क्षेत्रिकवत्) does not decline. tu (तु) is a small contrastive particle, “but.” aprayojaka (अप्रयोजक) is the privative you know, agreeing with nimitta (निमित्त). The genitive prakṛtīnām (प्रकृतीनाम्) is “of the prakṛtis (प्रकृति),” the things that are not driven.

Say it back

Say what the occasion is not, then what it is, then the likeness. Three beats.
