4.10
तासामनादित्वं चाशिषो नित्यत्वात्
tāsām anāditvaṃ cāśiṣo nityatvāt
The line
And they are beginningless, because the wish to live is constant.
नेपालीमा
अनि तिनीहरू अनादि हुन्, किनकि बाँच्ने इच्छा निरन्तर रहन्छ।
Where it sits
4.9 was continuity across gaps. This is continuity backward without a start. 4.11 is the release: they are held by cause, fruit, basis, and support, and when those are absent the impressions are absent.
Split: tāsām (तासाम्) + anāditvam (अनादित्वम्) + ca (च) + āśiṣaḥ (आशिषः) + nityatvāt (नित्यत्वात्)
Sanskrit, in depth
The words
| Word | Grammar | Sense |
|---|---|---|
| tāsām (तासाम्) | genitive plural, feminine | of them. Of the impressions. |
| anāditvam (अनादित्वम्) | nominative singular, neuter | the state of being beginningless. |
| ca (च) | indeclinable | and. |
| āśiṣaḥ (आशिषः) | genitive singular of āśis (आशि) | of the wish. The wish to go on living. |
| nityatvāt (नित्यत्वात्) | ablative singular | because of being constant. Because that wish has no break. |
The phrases
And they are beginningless, because the wish to live is constant. ca (च) + āśiṣaḥ (आशिषः) is cāśiṣaḥ (चाशिषः), a (अ) + ā (आ) = ā (आ). anāditvam (अनादित्वम्) is “beginninglessness,” an- (अन्) plus ādi (आदि) plus -tva (त्व). The ablative is the reason.
You cannot find a first impression, because the wish that carries them is constant. This is the same clinging to life as 2.9, seen from the side of the traces.
Sanskrit in this line
an-ādi (अनादि) “without a beginning,” plus -tva (त्व). ca (च) plus a word in long ā (आ) makes cā (चा). Genitive āśiṣaḥ (आशिषः) is “of the wish,” from the -is (इस्) stem āśis (आशि). Ablative -tvāt (त्वात्) is the because, again.
Say it back
Say why there is no first one. The wish is constant.
