चित्तान्तरदृश्ये बुद्धिबुद्धेरतिप्रसङ्गः स्मृतिसंकरश् च

cittāntara-dṛśye buddhi-buddher atiprasaṅgaḥ smṛti-saṃkaraś ca

The line

If a mind were seen by another mind, intellects would regress without end, and memories would be confused.

नेपालीमा

यदि एउटा चित्तलाई अर्को चित्तले देख्थ्यो भने बुद्धिहरू अन्त नभई पछि सर्ने थिए, र स्मृतिहरू मिसिन्थे।

Where it sits

The second reply fails. 4.22 gives the account that remains: awareness does not travel into the mind. When the mind takes the form of awareness, awareness knows its own intellect.

Split: citta (चित्त) + antara (अन्तर) + dṛśye (दृश्ये) + buddhi (बुद्धि) + buddheḥ (बुद्धेः) + atiprasaṅgaḥ (अतिप्रसङ्गः) + smṛti (स्मृति) + saṃkaraḥ (संकरः) + ca (च)

The phrases

If a mind were seen by another mind, there would be intellect behind intellect without end, and memories would be confused. citta (चित्त) + antara (अन्तर) is a (अ) + a (अ) = ā (आ). buddhi (बुद्धि) + buddhi (बुद्धि) is the regress, genitive buddheḥ (बुद्धेः). saṃkaraḥ ca (संकरः च) is saṃkaraś ca (संकरश् च).

Who would remember? Each mind's memory would belong to the mind that sees it, and that mind needs another, and memory never settles. So the seer of the mind is not a mind.

Sanskrit in this line

Locative dṛśye (दृश्ये) as the hypothetical situation, “when it is seen as another mind.” Genitive buddheḥ (बुद्धेः) stacked on buddhi (बुद्धि) is the picture of the regress. Two nominative faults: endless regress, and confused memory. ca (च) joins the second fault.

Say it back

Say the two faults. Regress, and confused memory.
