The positive doctrine of how the mind is known. 4.23 will say the mind, colored by both seer and seen, has every object. 4.24 will say that even so, the mind is for the sake of another, because it acts as a compound.

The phrases

Awareness, which does not migrate into another, knows its own intellect when the intellect takes on that form. citeḥ (चितेः) and apratisaṃkramāyāḥ (अप्रतिसंक्रमायाः) are both genitive. Before the vowel, citeḥ (चितेः) is recited citer (चितेर्). ākāra (आकार) + āpatti (आपत्ति) is a (अ) + ā (आ) = ā (आ), locative āpattau (आपत्तौ).

The mind takes the form. Awareness does not go anywhere. The knowing of the mind happens because the form is taken, not because awareness travels. This is the answer 4.19–4.21 left standing.

Sanskrit in this line

Genitive feminine -āyāḥ (आयाः) agrees with citeḥ (चितेः). Two genitives, one description: awareness, the non-migrating one. Locative āpattau (आपत्तौ) is the when. Nominative saṃvedanam (संवेदनम्) is the knowing. eḥ (एः) before a vowel is er (एर्): citer apratisaṃkramāyāḥ (चितेरप्रतिसंक्रमायाः).

Say it back

Say what awareness does not do. It does not migrate. Then say when the knowing happens.
