śrutopaniṣatkagatyabhidhānāc ca

The line

And because the path of the one who has heard the Upaniṣad (उपनिषद्) is named, the person in the eye is Brahman (ब्रह्मन्).

Where it sits

antaraḥ (अन्तरः) from 1.2.13, concluded as brahman (ब्रह्मन्) in 1.2.16, is still the subject. The path is part of the same conversation, not the later funeral path as a new topic.

The phrases

Other sentences describe a path whose first station is light, for the one who has heard the secret teaching and does not return. The teacher tells Upakosala that same path: they go to the light, from light to the day, and on.

He tells it in connection with the person in the eye. So that person is the one the path reaches, which is brahman (ब्रह्मन्). gati is the path. śruta-upaniṣatka (श्रुत-उपनिषत्क) is the one who has heard.

Sanskrit in this line

The compound is one ablative. Read from abhidhāna (अभिधान): the naming, of the gati, of the śruta-upaniṣatka (श्रुत-उपनिषत्क). Before ca, t is heard as c.

Say it back

Gloss gati here as the path of light, and say whose path it is.
