Upadeśasāhasrī (उपदेशसाहस्री), metrical
Executive summary
These pages are the metrical half of the Upadeśasāhasrī (उपदेशसाहस्री), the verses the tradition takes as Śaṅkara (शङ्कर)'s teaching of Advaita. They are not a seventh darśana (दर्शन). The Veda, in the part called the Upaniṣads (उपनिषद्), is the means of knowing. Nineteen prakaraṇas (प्रकरण), named from the colophons, move from awareness, through negation, to the sentence that thou art, and to the end of the fever. The prose half of the book is a different kind of lesson and is not the text here.

Rāmānuja's qualified non-dualism and Madhva's dualism read the same sūtras from the other side. The comparison is the theistic primer. No commentary is sat there. These pages remain Śaṅkara's verses.
Advaita is Śaṅkara (शङ्कर)'s reading of Vedānta (वेदान्त), and it is āstika (आस्तिक). The Veda, in the part called the Upaniṣads (उपनिषद्), is the pramāṇa (प्रमाण). These pages are not a seventh darśana (दर्शन). They are how he teaches that reading in his own verses.
The book is the metrical half of the Upadeśasāhasrī (उपदेशसाहस्री). The tradition takes it as Śaṅkara (शङ्कर)'s. The prose half is a different kind of lesson and is not the text here. The metrical half has nineteen prakaraṇas (प्रकरण), and all nineteen are in this pāṭha (पाठ). The names are the names of the colophons. Prakaraṇas (प्रकरण) 1–3 are written out by hand. From prakaraṇa (प्रकरण) 4 on, the sitting is a gloss of the words in the verse.
Most verses are anuṣṭubh (अनुष्टुभ्). Some prakaraṇas (प्रकरण), such as 10, are in longer metres like vaṃśastha (वंशस्थ). The English of the whole verse comes after the words.
धेरैजसो श्लोक अनुष्टुभ् छन्। प्रकरण १० जस्ता केही प्रकरण वंशस्थ जस्ता लामा छन्दमा छन्।
Where this reading meets the Buddhist one, the verse says so. Prakaraṇa (प्रकरण) 3, verse 3, is that meeting: neti neti (नेति नेति) is for removing a false superimposition. A negation aimed at something else would be a description of emptiness. The Mūlamadhyamakakārikā (मूलमध्यमककारिका) is the book that teaches emptiness in its own words. Read that book for that teaching. Do not import it into a verse that has not said it.
The sūtra these verses read is the Brahma Sūtra. The Buddhist examination of śūnyatā (शून्यता) is the Mūlamadhyamakakārikā (मूलमध्यमककारिका).
669 of 669 lines have a sitting. From prakaraṇa (प्रकरण) 4, only the second half of each verse is shown.
चौथो प्रकरणदेखि हरेक श्लोकको दोस्रो आधा मात्र देखाइएको छ।
The word-by-word glosses on the part pages were generated automatically and have not all been reviewed.
भाग-पृष्ठका शब्दार्थ स्वचालित रूपमा बनाइएका हुन्, र सबै जाँचिएका छैनन्।
