Brahma Sūtra / Adhyāya 1 / 1.2.2

विवक्षितगुणोपपत्तेश् च

vivakṣitaguṇopapatteś ca

The line

And because the qualities intended by the text fit Brahman (ब्रह्मन्), the being made of mind is Brahman (ब्रह्मन्).

नेपालीमा

र पाठले चाहेका गुण ब्रह्ममा मिल्ने भएकाले मनमय ब्रह्म हो।

Where it sits

The being of 1.2.1 is still the subject. The qualities are the ones Śāṇḍilya (शाण्डिल्य) lists, not a new set.

The phrases

vivakṣita (विवक्षित) is what the speaker wants to say. The qualities wanted are true resolve, being the self of space, holding all works and all desires. Those fit brahman (ब्रह्मन्). They do not fit the embodied soul, who does not have all works and whose resolve is not the truth of things.

upapatti is fitness. ca adds it to the 'well known' of the previous line.

Sanskrit in this line

upapatti is feminine, so the ablative is -eḥ (-एः), recited -eś (-एश्) before ca.

Say it back

Name two qualities that only fit the well-known brahman (ब्रह्मन्): true resolve, and all desires.
