1.2.32

Brahma Sūtra / Adhyāya 1 / 1.2.32

संपत्तेरिति जैमिनिस् तथा हि दर्शयति

saṃpatter iti jaiminis tathā hi darśayati

The line

Jaimini says it is because of the meditative identification, for the text shows it so.

नेपालीमा

जैमिनि भन्छन्, ध्यानको तादात्म्यका कारण यस्तो हो, किनकि पाठले त्यसरी देखाउँछ।

Where it sits

This returns to Jaimini from 1.2.29, with a sharper word, saṃpatti (संपत्ति). The showing is inside the Vaiśvānara (वैश्वानर) passage, the fruit of the meditation. The author's own line is the next one, which does not cancel these teachers so much as close on the text's declaration.

Split: saṃpatteḥ (संपत्तेः) + iti (इति) + jaiminiḥ (जैमिनिः) + tathā (तथा) + hi (हि) + darśayati (दर्शयति)

The phrases

saṃpatti (संपत्ति) is the meditator's entering a form: he is to regard this as that. Jaimini's second word is that the belly-fire is taken up by saṃpatti (संपत्ति), not as a theory of digestion. The text shows it, darśayati (दर्शयति): the one who meditates thus eats food in all worlds, in all beings, in all selves. That result is the result of a meditation-identification.

hi and tathā (तथा) support the view: the text itself exhibits the saṃpatti (संपत्ति). The subject of darśayati (दर्शयति) is the passage, not Jaimini.

Sanskrit in this line

jaiminiḥ (जैमिनिः) before t is recited jaiminis. saṃpatti (संपत्ति) is feminine. darśayati (दर्शयति) is the causative of dṛś (दृश्), 'makes seen', here 'shows'.

Say it back

Gloss saṃpatti (संपत्ति) as 'regard this as that', and point at the fruit the text states.
