उत्तराच् चेदाविर्भूतस्वरूपस् तु

uttarāc ced āvirbhūtasvarūpas tu

The line

If you say the proof is only the later sentence, the reply is that his own form has simply become manifest.

नेपालीमा

यदि प्रमाण केवल पछिल्लो वाक्य हो भन्छौ भने, उत्तर यो हो कि उसको आफ्नै रूप प्रकट भएको मात्र हो।

Where it sits

The subject is still daharaḥ (दहरः) of 1.3.13. The later sentence is the one the objection used in 1.3.17. tu contrasts with cet.

Split: uttarāt (उत्तरात्) + cet (चेत्) + āvirbhūta-svarūpaḥ (आविर्भूत-स्वरूपः) + tu (तु)

The phrases

The objector tries again: your brahman (ब्रह्मन्)-marks, he says, come only from a later sentence, so the small space itself might still be the soul, and brahman (ब्रह्मन्) only comes in afterwards. uttarāt (उत्तरात्) cet is that 'if you are leaning on the later sentence'.

tu answers. What the later sentence does is āvirbhūta-svarūpa (आविर्भूत-स्वरूप): the own form has become manifest. The nature that the small space already was is what shows itself when the serene one is said to reach the light. The later sentence does not introduce a second subject.

Sanskrit in this line

uttarāt (उत्तरात्) before cet is recited uttarāc (उत्तराच्). cet before a vowel is ced. svarūpaḥ (स्वरूपः) before tu is svarūpas (स्वरूप) tu.

Say it back

Say āvirbhūta (आविर्भूत) as 'come into the open', not as 'newly created'.
