smṛti-pariśuddhau svarūpa-śūnyevārtha-mātra-nirbhāsā nirvitarkā

The line

When memory is purified, it shines as the object alone, as if empty of its own form. That is without reasoning.

नेपालीमा

स्मृति शुद्ध भएपछि त्यो वस्तु मात्र झल्किन्छ, मानौँ आफ्नै रूप रित्तो छ। त्यो वितर्करहित हो।

Where it sits

This is the pair of 1.42. With reasoning, word and object and knowing were mixed. Without reasoning, memory has dropped the word, and the object alone shines. 1.44 will repeat the pair at a subtler level.

Split: smṛti (स्मृति) + pariśuddhau (परिशुद्धौ) + svarūpa (स्वरूप) + śūnyā (शून्या) + iva (इव) + artha (अर्थ) + mātra (मात्र) + nirbhāsā (निर्भासा) + nirvitarkā (निर्वितर्का)

The phrases

smṛti-pariśuddhau (स्मृतिपरिशुद्धौ) is locative: when memory is purified. samāpattiḥ (समापत्तिः) is still the noun, by anuvṛtti (अनुवृत्ति), which is why śūnyā (शून्या), nirbhāsā (निर्भासा), and nirvitarkā (निर्वितर्का) are feminine.

svarūpa-śūnyā iva artha-mātra-nirbhāsā (स्वरूपशून्या इव अर्थमात्रनिर्भासा) is “shining as the object alone, as if empty of its own form.” śūnyā (शून्या) + iva (इव) is ā (आ) + i (इ) = e (ए), and iva (इव) + artha (अर्थ) is a (अ) + a (अ) = ā (आ), so the recited seam is śūnyevārtha (शून्येवार्थ).

Sanskrit in this line

The locative -au (औ) on an i-stem is the ending you met as sthitau (स्थितौ) in 1.13, “when / in.” And ā (आ) + i (इ) = e (ए): śūnyā iva (शून्या इव) is śūnyeva (शून्येव). Put the next a (अ) + a (अ) on top of it and you hear śūnyevārtha (शून्येवार्थ). One seam, two rules you already have.

Say it back

Say the locative condition first, smṛti-pariśuddhau (स्मृतिपरिशुद्धौ), then the name of this samāpatti (समापत्ति): nirvitarkā (निर्वितर्का).
