1.51

तस्यापि निरोधे सर्वनिरोधान् निर्बीजः समाधिः

tasyāpi nirodhe sarva-nirodhān nirbījaḥ samādhiḥ

The line

When even that is stilled, because everything is stilled, samādhi (समाधि) is without seed.

नेपालीमा

त्यो पनि निरोध भएपछि, सबै निरोध भएकाले, समाधि बीजरहित हुन्छ।

Where it sits

This closes the first pāda (पाद). 1.2 defined yoga as the stilling of the activities. 1.46 gathered the samāpattis (समापत्ति) as samādhi (समाधि) that still has a seed. 1.50 let even the truthful insight leave an impression. This line stills that impression too. What remains is named, not described. The second pāda (पाद) will turn to the work that thins the causes.

Split: tasya (तस्य) + api (अपि) + nirodhe (निरोधे) + sarva (सर्व) + nirodhāt (निरोधात्) + nirbījaḥ (निर्बीजः) + samādhiḥ (समाधिः)

The phrases

tasya api nirodhe (तस्य अपि निरोधे) is “when even that is stilled.” tasya (तस्य) + api (अपि) is a (अ) + a (अ) = ā (आ), recited tasyāpi (तस्यापि). The locative nirodhe (निरोधे) is the when.

sarva-nirodhāt (सर्वनिरोधात्) is the reason, ablative. Before nirbīja (निर्बीज), the final t (त्) becomes n (न्), so the line is recited nirodhān nirbījaḥ (निरोधान् निर्बीजः). nirbījaḥ samādhiḥ (निर्बीजः समाधिः) are two masculine nominatives: samādhi (समाधि) is seedless. The pair of 1.46 is closed.

Sanskrit in this line

Two endings carry the line. Locative nirodhe (निरोधे) means “when there is stilling.” Ablative nirodhāt (निरोधात्) means “because of the stilling.” A final t (त्) before n (न्) becomes n (न्): nirodhāt nirbījaḥ (निरोधात् निर्बीजः) is said nirodhān nirbījaḥ (निरोधान् निर्बीजः). You heard t (त्) become d (द्) before a vowel in 1.41. Before a nasal, t (त्) becomes that nasal.

Say it back

Close the English. Recite 1.46 and 1.51 as a pair: with seed, and without. Say what “even that” points at.
