2.1
तपःस्वाध्यायेश्वरप्रणिधानानि क्रियायोगः
tapaḥ-svādhyāyeśvara-praṇidhānāni kriyā-yogaḥ
The line
Kriyā (क्रिया) yoga is discipline, self-study, and dedication to Īśvara (ईश्वर).
नेपालीमा
क्रियायोग तप, स्वाध्याय र ईश्वरप्रणिधान हो।
Where it sits
The second pāda (पाद) opens on practice, not on a new definition of the seer. Dedication to Īśvara (ईश्वर) was the alternative route in 1.23. Here it is one limb of a three-part practice. 2.2 says what the three are for.
Split: tapaḥ (तपः) + svādhyāya (स्वाध्याय) + īśvara (ईश्वर) + praṇidhānāni (प्रणिधानानि) + kriyā (क्रिया) + yogaḥ (योगः)
Sanskrit, in depth

|---|---|---|
| tapaḥ (तपः) | stem | discipline. Heat applied to oneself: austerity that is not damage. |
| svādhyāya (स्वाध्याय) | stem | self-study. Recitation and study of what one repeats. |
| īśvara (ईश्वर) | stem | Īśvara (ईश्वर). From 1.24. |
| praṇidhānāni (प्रणिधानानि) | nominative plural, neuter | dedications. The plural ending covers all three. |
| kriyā (क्रिया) | stem | action, the doing. |
| yogaḥ (योगः) | nominative singular, masculine | yoga. Here a yoga of doing, not yet the stilling of 1.2. |
The phrases
The neuter plural praṇidhānāni (प्रणिधानानि) closes a list of three: discipline, self-study, and dedication to Īśvara (ईश्वर). svādhyāya (स्वाध्याय) + īśvara (ईश्वर) is a (अ) + ī (ई) = e (ए), so you hear svādhyāyeśvara (स्वाध्यायेश्वर).
kriyā-yogaḥ (क्रियायोगः) is the predicate, masculine. The three are a yoga that is a doing. The first pāda (पाद) defined yoga as stilling. This pāda (पाद) names the work that makes the stilling possible.
Sanskrit in this line
The new sandhi is a (अ) + ī (ई) = e (ए). svādhyāya (स्वाध्याय) + īśvara (ईश्वर) is svādhyāyeśvara (स्वाध्यायेश्वर). Neuter plural -āni (आनि) is the ending you met on the obstacle list in 1.30. Only the last member wears it.
Say it back
Name the three, with one ending for the list. Then say what the three are: kriyā-yogaḥ (क्रियायोगः).
