Where it sits

ca adds this reason to īkṣateḥ (ईक्षतेः) of 1.1.5 and to the reasons through 1.1.11. The next line leaves Śvetaketu (श्वेतकेतु) and takes up a new word.

The phrases

ca closes the run of reasons. śruta (श्रुत) is what has been heard, what the sentence actually says. The seeing is in the text. One does not reach it by inferring an unsentient cause and then bending the verb.

The abstract tvāt (त्वात्) makes 'being stated' the reason. With this, the first passage is settled on the side of brahman (ब्रह्मन्).

Sanskrit in this line

śruta (श्रुत) plus tva is neuter. Before ca the final t is heard as c: śrutatvāc (श्रुतत्वाच्) ca.

Say it back

List the reasons from seeing through this last ca, then stop. A new passage starts next.
