1.1.15
Brahma Sūtra / Adhyāya 1 / 1.1.15
तद्धेतुव्यपदेशाच् च
taddhetuvyapadeśāc ca
The line
And because he is named as the cause of that bliss, the blissful one is Brahman (ब्रह्मन्).
नेपालीमा
र ऊ त्यो आनन्दको कारण भनेर नाम लिइएकाले आनन्दमय ब्रह्म हो।
Where it sits
ānandamayaḥ (आनन्दमयः) from 1.1.13 remains the one who is so designated. tat is the bliss of that same passage.
Split: tad-dhetu-vyapadeśāt (तद्-धेतु-व्यपदेशात्) + ca (च)
Sanskrit, in depth
The words
| Word | Grammar | Sense |
|---|---|---|
| tad-dhetu-vyapadeśāt (तद्-धेतु-व्यपदेशात्) | ablative singular, masculine | because it is designated as the cause of that |
| ca (च) | indeclinable | and |
The phrases
tat is bliss. hetu is cause. The text calls him the flavor: having reached it, one becomes blissful. A product sitting inside the person does not answer as the cause of bliss.
ca adds this to abhyāsa (अभ्यास) and to prācurya (प्राचुर्य). The designation, vyapadeśa (व्यपदेश), is the text's own naming, not an inference.
Sanskrit in this line
tad plus hetu: d doubles after a short vowel in the compound, so the word is taddhetu. Before ca, t becomes c.
Say it back
Gloss hetu here as the cause of bliss, not the cause of the world.
Next
1.1.16. The mantra portion sings this same blissful Brahman (ब्रह्मन्).
